Green coffee bean extract is now being used for weight loss. The coffee bean extract has been shown to work for losing weight as well as body fat. Cholorgenic acid in green coffee beans is what creates the weight loss in people and is extracted from the green coffee beans prior to roasting. Chlorogenic acid apparently slows down glucose entering the bloodstream and reduces the absorption of fat which results in weight loss. It is believed that chlorogenic acid also causes the liver to metabolize fat faster. Once coffee beans are roasted they lose the cholorgenic acid that generates weight loss. Green coffee bean extract may just be the next weight loss solution.

The American Heart Association conducted a 13 year study of 82,369 men and women in Japan and found that both coffee and green tea help prevent strokes. People who drank a minimum of one cup of coffee daily had a 20 percent lower risk of stroke compared to people who rarely drank coffee. Green tea drinkers showed that the more green tea a person drank, the lesser the chance for stroke. A previous study showed that women who drank two or more cups of coffee a day may stimulate the central nervous system which is linked to boosting creativity and impulsiveness. Drinking coffee and green tea seems to be a health booster after all.

Have you ever tried to read the menu at your local coffee emporium? If you are in the habit of always ordering the same thing each and every time you go in, you can just recite its name from memory and go merrily on your way. But what if you want to try something different? How do you know what you’re going to get? And why is a Tall the shortest selection?

Debenhams, a department store in the UK has introduced a super simple menu, using such descriptive terms as “Simple coffee,” “Really really milky coffee, ” and “Frothy coffee.” No longer will you have to read the fine print to figure out what you’re getting, or have to parrot back a string of nonsense to the barista to get your morning cup.

You know that you need your cup of Joe to get you up and moving in the morning. But did you know that it can also help you live longer? Even though the researchers can’t figure out exactly why, people who drink a couple cups a day seem to live longer, with those who consume four or five cups a day apparently live the longest. With the average coffee consumer downing 3.2 cups a day, this level may be somewhat above average (or as we call it, Thursday), but who can argue with those statistics? Nobody’s saying that the coffee consumption is the cause of this new-found longevity, but are you willing to take a chance? Now if only you can get your doctor to write you a prescription for Starbucks…

Back in the day, everybody had an office. It was in a building, with a desk you could put your stuff on, and a chair to sit in. Any more, though, with so many people telecommuting or self-employed, offices are few and far between. Maybe you could pile your stuff on the kitchen table to get your work done, but you’ll need to move the dishes and get rid of the pizza boxes. And then there’s the whole isolation thing: spending all your time by yourself worked for the Unabomber, but for most folks, there is some basic need for at least minimal human contact. For many people, the perfect solution is to go hang out in your local coffee dispensary. They’ve got chairs and tables, people, and most of ‘em have Wi-Fi too, so you’ve got everything you need for your proxy office. Turns out, though, most coffee shops are a lot more interested in selling you coffee than in giving you a free space to conduct business in, and many of them are starting to push back with tricks like covering up electrical outlets (you’re only good ’til your laptop battery poops out) and frequently changing Wi-Fi passwords (you need to buy another latte for this hour’s login). It’s probably a good idea to show your appreciation for the use of the space and go ahead and buy another cup—after all, a Frappuccino is a whole lot cheaper than paying rent on a real office.

cochineal insect

While that observation may be the punchline of a bad joke you heard once upon a time, it turns out that if you frequent a certain Seattle-based coffee chain you may indeed have bugs in your cup of Joe. Starbucks has released a statement letting everybody know that some of their drinks—specifically their Strawberry Frappuccinos—get their lovely color from an extract of dead, dried-up bugs. Now as luck would have it, they’re not the only outfit to use the mortal remains of cochineal insects to color their wares, if that makes you feel any better. Nevertheless, if you’re trying to go vegan, you’ll want to order something other than the pink Frapp.

Coffee News: Mr Coffee Dead at 89

In the Beginning was the Percolator. While boiling your coffee to death is hardly the recommended method to make a pot, there wasn’t much in the way of an alternative until Mr Coffee came along. This drip system was worlds beyond what we had before, and it was good. One of the founders of the company that made Mr Coffee, Samuel Glazer, passed away recently. While he hadn’t been involved with the company for several years, having sold his interest in the business back in the 80s, think of Mr Glazer every time you don’t have to drink a cup on instant when you roll out of bed in the morning.

Marley Coffee
Simmer Down Swiss Water Decaf Dark Roast Ground Coffee
Price: $9.95 8 oz.

Marley Coffee was kind enough to send us free coffees to sample from their line of six ground coffees and a bag of their Jamaica Blue Mountain whole bean coffee to review. Music icon Bob Marley yearned to return to farming someday, his son Rohan and friend Shane Whittle kept Marley’s dream alive by founding Marley Coffee. The company sources its beans from around the world, including Central America, Ethiopia, and Jamaica. The Jamaica beans are from a 52-acre private estate atop the Blue Mountains, known as a region with the best coffee beans. Marley Coffee partners with farms in Africa, Central America and other top coffee-growing regions worldwide to make their excellent coffee. Marley coffee is known for their support of communities and their commitment to the environment through organic, sustainable and ethical practices. Marley Coffee sent their ground coffee series for us to review and it has all been very good, imagine how good their whole bean coffee must be.

When opening the package of ground Simmer Down decaf coffee the coffee smell is inviting. The Simmer Down ground decaf coffee was brewed with a French Press and it was tasted with and without half and half. This coffee is created using a Swiss Water process to decaffeinate the coffee.

When brewed the Simmer Down decaf coffee has an inviting aroma. The decaf is good and strong. I always appreciate this when it comes to decaf since some decaf coffee comes off weak tasting at times, not Simmer Down, it has a full bodied flavor. The Simmer Down coffee has a smooth, mellow flavor tasting of chocolate with a hint of fruit and spice. There is no bitterness, simply a smooth, very mellow flavor that is thoroughly enjoyable. I drink decaf often and I’d happily drink Simmer Down as my regular coffee, so decaf lovers take note of this coffee. Simmer Down ground coffee is a good tasting, subtle decaf I think you’d enjoy waking up to every day.

Coffee Article: Starbucks Wedding

Here at The Conspiracy we like coffee. We love coffee. We really love coffee. In the words of Pee-wee Herman, maybe we should marry it. Seems a bit extreme to us, but perhaps not so much so to a couple in Tulsa, who married not coffee but each other at the local Starbucks. Apparently they courted in their favorite coffee shop, so it seemed only right that they seal the deal in the same location. The store was closed at the time, so their exchanging of vows wasn’t drowned out by baristas calling out drink orders. Anybody for a Champagne Macchiato?

Coffee News: Inhalable Caffeine

Gotta’ have that morning cup of inspiration, but just can’t be bothered with little things like taste and aroma? Then maybe what you need is inhalable caffeine. AeroShot comes in a plastic inhaler that shoots powdered caffeine directly onto the tongue, bypassing the line at Starbucks, the espresso machine, and presumably the rush to find the restroom an hour later.

Thanks, but I’ll stick with my mug of French Roast, if it’s all the same to you….

You always knew that a cup of coffee first thing in the morning would give you that boost you needed go get going. But who knew you could also power your car with it?

A group of British engineers were able to power a car up to 77.5 miles per hour using nothing but coffee–more specifically, used coffee grounds. After gathering all those leftovers, they dried the grounds, compressed them into pellets, and burned a mixture of coffee grounds and wood in a gassifier, which converts the fuel into a combination of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane, that in turn powers the vehicle’s engine. There was no indication whether the coffee they used was “leaded” or “unleaded”.

We all know that coffee can give us a lift, but who knew it could be this powerful? A new study from Harvard School of Public Health suggests that women who drank two to three cups of caffeinated coffee per day were fifteen percent less likely to develop depression than those who drank one cup of coffee or less per week.
